SENCO

RAISE-AP have access to our consultant Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO). Our consultant SENCO has responsibility for overseeing and coordinating support for students with special educational needs (SEN) in our provision. Their role includes:

• Identifying young people who may need extra help or assessment for special needs.

• Coordinating support, working alongside our teachers and support staff

• Support in developing and reviewing individual education plans (IEPs)

• Advise and train staff on how to support our students with additional needs

• Help RAISE-AP communicate with parents and carers about progress and support

At the heart of RAISE-AP’s commitment to inclusive education stands our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) - a role that is not simply valuable, but absolutely essential to the life and culture of our community. Every child who walks through our doors deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. Yet for many of our young people, the path to achieving their potential requires additional understanding, tailored support, and a dedicated advocate who truly sees them as an individual. That is precisely what our consultant SENCO provides, passing on their knowledge and expertise to our wider staff.

Our consultant SENCO acts as the bridge between young people with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) and the wider community, coordinating with teachers, support staff, parents and carers, and external specialists to ensure that no child is left behind.

Through careful assessment and referrals that are carefully consider to ensure RAISE-AP can meet every need, the development of Education, Health and Care Plans, and ongoing monitoring of progress, our consultant SENCO ensures that every young person receives provision that is both appropriate and ambitious.

Beyond the paperwork and planning, our consultant SENCO brings something that cannot be quantified: a deep commitment to equity. They champion the rights of our most vulnerable learners at every level of school life, challenging barriers, raising awareness among staff, and fostering a culture where difference is understood and celebrated rather than overlooked.

The difference between equity and equality should be considered when designing test constructs. Equality is not equity. A test for young person is not the same for another if the conditions for their participation do not present them with the same opportunity to succeed. The conditions can be both personal and environmental.

For families navigating the often complex landscape of SEND support, our consultant SENCO is a trusted point of contact - someone who listens, advises, and advocates with compassion and expertise. Our consultant SENCO makes sure that young people with additional learning or developmental needs get the right support to succeed, which we believe is a huge asset to the provision we offer.
